Tadashii- Let's start with the basics. What's your name, your shop, your favorite cookie, and the title of your favorite horror movie?

Kelly- My name is Kelly, my shop is mooshoo (aka moosoopork on etsy) my favorite cookie i'd have to say is chocolate chip. Simple, yes, but so good :) As for favorite my horror movie.. i'm gonna go with dead alive. Haha, it's not that it's scary as it is just bad old gore, and tons of it.

Tadashii- In as much heartfelt honesty as possible, what does handmade REALLY mean to you?

Kelly- Handmade to me means that someone took the time to create something themselves. Whether that's food, clothing, art, or whatever.. there was thought and time put into something. The idea of being created and made into something with someone's hands, and then put into anothers for good use is quite a lovely idea I think.

Tadashii- Do you prefer bar soap, or liquid body wash?

Kelly- Hmm depends.. lately I've been using liquid. (although i will always have a soft spot for handmade bar soap) liquid soap is somehow easier at times.

Tadashii- Your peg dolls just rock my socks, especially your ninjas. If you could have a one on one luch date with one of your high kicking assassins, where would you go?

Tadashii- Situation- Lindsay Lohan commissions you to create a set of custom peg dolls for her in various stages of her (public) life. What would these epic dolls look like?

Kelly- I'm not quite up on my lindsay lohan stages.. (goes to google it) but I know the first doll would have lots of freckles. Hehe.

Tadashii- What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment in life thus far? Why?

Kelly- My greatest accomplishment in life thus far would have to be my natives! Raising them is the hardest, and most rewarding job I will ever do.

Tadashii- Do you ever think one of your ninjas might come to life at night, and steal all of your shampoo? (everyone knows ninjas have awesome haircuts)

Big Ass Spider

Whilst taking out the garbage the other evening, i was a bit surprised to find this gigantic muthersucker hanging out above the motion sensor lights on my deck.

Needless to say, that's one big ass spider!

Tadashii- What first inspired you to start creating these wickedly cute cake toppers?

Michelle- First of all, thank you for the wickedly cute comment. I’ve never had them called that before and now I can’t wipe this silly grin off my face or stop blushing! My inspiration came from a D.I.Y. instructional project sheet I picked up at a craft store. I was looking for something new to dabble in and thought, “Hey, I can do that.” It was in the fall of 2007 and was for a polymer clay gingerbread figurine. I bought the clay and used toothpicks for carving. I still put that figurine out each Christmas. In hindsight, I made lots of mistakes but I was immediately hooked after that first creation. The possibilities were endless and it took off from there. The idea of cake toppers actually came from my customers on Etsy. I was getting requests for first-birthday cake toppers and themed cake decor and I went with it. I would’ve never thought of making a clay topper for a cake! But now it’s my main product I sell and I love making them!

Tadashii- If you sold a cake topper to Randy Travis, what would it look like?

Michelle- First I would ask Randy Travis, what he wanted and then I’d sculpt it. Well, ok, if I had to create something like for a gift or something, I’d probably sculpt him with his guitar and cowboy hat, sitting on a bale of hay. He is a country singer, right? Or is he the judge on American Idol? Oh wait, no, that’s Randy Jackson, never mind.

Tadashii- Halloween is coming up, what are you planning to dress up as?

Michelle- . Halloween, yes, costume, no. LOL I’m no fun right? Wrong! I used to dress up every year to hand out candy for Trick-or-Treat…a witch with a long black wig, a witch’s hat and a black gown was my favorite. Then after a few years of my son trick-or-treating, I figured I’d let him do the dressing up and I stopped. I think I was scaring the small children when I opened the door in my costume with the “Scary Sounds of Halloween” CD blarin. Maybe they were just donating their buckets of candy to me and running down the driveway screaming with glee…hmmm…

Tadashii- Are you working on any new designs?

Michelle- I’m always coming up with new things to sculpt with clay. Actually my customers come up with the new ideas most of the time. The majority of my sales are custom orders. I’ve had some strange requests too! But I love a good challenge for sure. I love creating “cutesy” items. Mainly children and animals. It just comes naturally for me to sculpt those things. Even some things that should be scary like a T-Rex, dragon, or a bat, come out cute! So I just go with that as you can see from the items in my Etsy shop. Sometimes people will just toss ideas out there for me and if I get a good image in my head of it, I’ll make it. I like looking at a photo or drawing while sculpting. That helps me a bunch.

Tadashii- Have you ever seen a chicken dance?

Michelle- I’ve made a chicken outta clay and made it dance. Does that count? Or are we talking weddings? I’ve seen waaaaay too many people in tuxes and gowns doing the chicken dance and I really think there should be a law against it. Or maybe just a hefty fine. Oh no…now that song is in my head…

Tadashii- Tell me your best knock knock joke.

Michelle- Omigosh…my son used to tell knock knock jokes when he was like three that made absolutely no sense at all and we’d laugh anyway! I won’t tell you one of those. So here goes…Knock knock? Who’s there? T-Rex. T-Rex who? There’s a T-Rex at your door and you wanna know it’s name?

Tadashii- What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment in life so far and why?

Michelle- My greatest life accomplishment has to be my son. A human isn’t exactly an accomplishment, but as a mom I’m very proud of him. He turned 10 this past summer. I made sacrifices both while pregnant and as a stay-at-home mom to be sure he has the best of everything. And as an only child, he does get a lot of my time and attention no doubt. I’m proud of how he respects authority, can have intelligent conversations with adults and yet play with young children very well. We laugh a lot together. He is smart, funny, and creative. I can’t wait to see what his life accomplishments will be!

Tadashii- Do you ever think your clay creations might come to life one night, use the bathroom and leave the toilet seat up?

Michelle- It’s not so much the toilet thing that scares me as maybe a reenactment of Gulliver’s Travels where I’m Gulliver in Lilliput and the little clay figurines tie me down in my sleep (shiver). That gives me nightmares. That’s why I won’t let them read or watch T.V. I don’t want them to get any ideas. But quite honestly, I’ve never thought of such a thing until just now. Are you sober? Where is Barbara Walters? I thought she was conducting this interview? Get my agent!
